AUB’s Dr. Salma Talhouk accompanied 32 Landscape Design students, Khalid Slim and 3 instructors on a tree planting expedition in the Maramil area of Maasser al Shouf. They used the “Khallouda” soil-loosener to plant pine (Pinea) seeds.

A visit to the site on the 9th of August revealed a relatively high survival rate. However, the site had been subjected to lots of trampling and destruction due to passing heavy machinery such as large trucks. It seems that Maramil is unofficially still functioning as an excavation site for construction materials, which impedes the proper development of planted seeds.
